How you can help Moroccans affected by the earthquake

We were heartbroken to hear of the earthquake in Morocco and have been reaching out to all our family and friends to check on them. We are relieved to hear that they are okay. We are stuck here in the US and want to provide help to organizations working on earthquake relief in Morocco. We have built a short but vetted list of organizations doing work in Morocco right now. We are using this to inform our own donations, but we thought you might also want this information. The lists are organized into Personal Fundraising Campaigns, Moroccan Organizations, and International Organizations.

Here is a list of places accepting donations for Morocco earthquake relief. Many of them are already on the ground and actively working to help those affected. There may be others, but these are the best right now; we are adding more as we hear about them. Please share this with your networks. Mektoub Henna is not affiliated with any of these organizations in any way; this is just a list of organizations we know are working in Morocco.

If you are in Morocco and want to/are able to offer in person help, please take a look at this map for most affected areas. Also join the Morocco subreddit to connect with others.

Personal Fundraising Campaigns

These are smaller fundraisers run by people we know personally and are donating to.

Donate to help Abdoul’s village rebuild (a friend of Mektoub Henna) - 100% of the donations go to Abdoul to help him rebuild his village, Aït Ourir, in Morocco’s High Atlas mountains, 30 minutes southeast of Marrakech. Portions of the house collapsed in the earthquake, and the remaining part of the house is unsafe with substantial structural damage. The family is sleeping outdoors along with others in the village. Abdoul has begun constructing a small room away from the house for his parents to have shelter over the winter and is helping others in the village.

Donate to Samir’s GoFundMe Samir is collecting and delivering goods from Agadir to villages in need. He has started a GoFundMe to collect donations to keep their work going. Samir Langus is a friend of the Mektoub Henna founders, and we are so happy to help him with his work. Samir Langus and his team have established a distribution network that is based in Agadir, only 1.5 hours away from the affected villages. They are working with a tent manufacturer in Agadir who will build 10-person tents, which can sleep one family per tent. Their goal is to make and distribute 50-100 tents + provide food and blankets to those in need. 100% of your donation will go towards providing these supplies and resources in these remote villages.
